Happy 100th Day of School! It is hard to believe that we have been in school for more than half the year. :)
We wrapped up poetry this week in ELA. Students learned how to analyze poetry for meaning, structure, lesson, figurative language, and speaker's thoughts/feelings. We also took our quarterly ELA benchmark today. Scores for math and ELA benchmarks will go home in data binders next week. We will kick off Module 3 on Monday, which is my favorite of the year. We will be reading the novel Peter Pan and learning to interact with the text, summarize, analyze character traits and motivation, setting, and lesson.
In math, we have been learning all about area this week. Students have learned what area is, how to use tiles and graph paper to find area, and we made the connection to area and multiplication. We will introduce perimeter next week and keep working on word problems/scenarios where we have to determine what to do.
Students are really enjoying science! We started forces and motion this week and students have learned about what force is, how objects need force to move, and about gravity. They had a blast making a ping pong ball move from one cup to another without using their hands, making marshmallow shooters, and designing a push/pull toy. Thank you so much for all the donations which made all of this possible. Next week we will dig more into gravity.
